Building New Houses

I had a great week in Biloxi Mississippi building houses for Habitat for Humanity.  My sponsoring group was DREAMBUILDERS based in Maryland. 22 people of all skill levels participated and it was a great event overall! We followed the Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter Project which included 2000 people working to build 10 plus houses. Therefore, upon our arrival, we found homes in various states of completion. All were framed out, most had been roofed and all were ready for interior work.

I installed wood laminate flooring, built deck railings, and did general caulking and painting in three homes. The experience was incredible and the people from Dreambuilders are a joy to be to associated with. I will look forward to participating in other projects with the group.

Back here at home in Norfolk Virginia I hope to continue the effort. I will look for a project to participate in on the local level. I would love to find a project that is LEED certified or built to Earthcraft or other 'green' standards. If anyone knows of a project like this locally, please let me know!

In the meantime - THANKS Dreambuilders, Thanks Habitat for a great week in Biloxi!

Waterfront

Good morning! I had the opportunity to visit a home on Willow Wood Drive in Norfolk last night. It was a reminder to me that so many homes in our area are 'sleepers'.  This is an attractive home but not one that would necessarily attract your attention. But once you walk through the foyer, you are                      treated to beautiful waterfront views. Imagine the delight of being able to cook your breakfast or dinner with a view of the river! There are so many homes in our area with terrific views, extraordinary interiors, etc that they surprise you... From the ordinary to the extraordinary!
